The first project meeting in Silkeborg/Denmark took place as early as September 2006 and was organized perfectly. We coordinated the  proceedings of the project. After the official opening ceremony, the headmaster explained  the Danish system of vocational training. During the meeting we could talk to teachers, pupils and federation representatives. Some technical journals sent reporters to attend the meeting and write about it. A flyer was distributed at the meeting in order to inform about the project. Lyngdal’s Vidergaende Skole from Norway joined the meeting as an external partner. The individual schools specified the topical areas. The following "European technological challenges“ were compiled by the pupils in all partner schools and introduced at the next project meeting in Hengelo in May 2007:

The Netherlands: Corrosion protection of waterworks

Germany: Modern application methods

Spain: Modern spray gun technology

Denmark: Spraying and drying cabins/Spraying booth technology

The teams of pupils which were to master this challenge were selected in the partner schools in October 2006. Since in this project slow learners as well as pupils with special educational needs shall receive special consideration with the active work on the project, we teamed slow learners to stronger pupils. Since November 2006 until April 2007 pupils and teachers prepared a ‘Comenius Technology Day’. The materials were provided during instruction at all schools. The pupils communicated via email or exchanged experiences in a Chatroom .

In May 2007, the technological challenges mastered by the pupils were presented in at the ROC van Twente Hengelo/Enschede (the Netherlands) in the form of presentations, exhibitions, pictures, diagrams, and designs. For one week, more than 50 pupils from partner schools lived, worked and cooperated together in the Netherlands. The official ‘Comenius Technology Day’ was an integral part of this project meeting. The school, pupils and training enterprises as well as associated partners presented their activities and put them into a European context. Furthermore, a special Comenius-Newspaper was distributed at the meeting. After the meeting, the pupils received a certificate which describes all the activities.

All activities went well and during the meeting and after the pupils had formed many international friendships and still exchange emails and letters. Some of them even want to meet each other again in the near future. Recapitulating the meeting in Hengelo, we can testify that this week was a large success and a challenge for pupils and teachers and gave much pleasure. A big meeting like this is not easy to organize, therefore we have to give our special thanks to our Dutch hosts for a beautiful and eventful week in the region Twente

Products of the first project year

A film about the meeting in Denmark, presented to teachers and pupils after the meeting

A flyer introducing the project distributed to teachers, pupils and associated partners at the meeting in Denmark

A school newspaper presenting the technological topics of all schools was distributed at the meeting in Hengelo

Power Point presentations for the official Comenius-day in Hengelo and the meeting in Denmark

Exhibitions that were presented at the official Comenius-day in Hengelo

A multinational internet platform was established (www.comeniustc.com).

Display cabinets / infopoints were arranged in the entrance areas of the schools

Certificates for the participating pupils

The short-takes for the film were shot during the meeting in Denmark by teachers of different schools, compiled later and cut by teachers and pupils in Germany. The display cabinets / infopoints were arranged separately in each school, the material for this purpose was exchanged between schools. The presentations and the exhibition parts were developed in each school, the pupils of the different schools helped each other and exchanged experiences via email/chats. Finally, they put together the pieces for the Comenius-day as a joint activity. All other activities were joint project activities, too. The materials were received positively. The website is frequently visited by pupils, teachers and other guests. The presentations and the exhibitions were critically acclaimed by all the visitors, including the associated partners.

Summary of the first project year

Photos of the pupils from Lyngdal, Norway who is working on the project.

At the moment they are preparing themselves for the big trip to the Nederland.

You know, they have to learn a little more English and also something about new

paint developments. This is the Norwegian part of the project.

Henning works at the practical level together whit the pupils. As far as I know

they have learned a lot about UW draying and also a little bit of the “Intelligent coating”.

       Nederland

In the Netherlands, due to a lot of water and the coastal climate it is necessary

to pay special attention to corrosion prevention in order to safe boats, steel constructions

etc. from being destroyed.

About half of the surface area of the Netherlands is less than 1 metre above sea level,

and much of it is actually below sea level. An extensive range of dykes and dunes

protects these areas from flooding. Numerous massive pumping stations keep the

ground water level in check.

The Dutch team of pupils will demonstrate how to derust and protect a boat or a

steel-construction from corrosion. After the rust removal they will put on an anti-rust

priming coat. The next step is the stopping of the exteriour surface. Finally the object

is going to be spray painted. All this is done in the way that it is possible to see the

different layers of the coating. We will prepare a DVD of the works and a presentation

of it at the official Comenius-day.

Denmark

As the Silkeborg Teckniske Schole owns quite a lot of high-tech-spray booths, we,

the Danish pupils decided to prepare an exhibition of their history and technology.

Spray booths provide a controlled environment for the application of paints and other

finishes. They are regularly used in car-refinishing, in the end stages of automobile

production, as well as in numerous finishing applications.

At the exhibition we will present spray booths 30 years back and now, how HS-and

waterborne paints have changed the technology. We will also take a closer look at

the future in spraying cabin technology. We will bring lots of posters, pictures and

illustrations to the official meeting in the Netherlands.

We are all looking forward to meet you there!!!
